MDA, CGA, Hercules, and EGA, are older standards. They don't provide a crisp image, and your colors are limited. More importantly, these do not work with Windows.

VGA, provides a good image that works well with Windows. However, SVGA or super VGA provides the best image with the most colors.

The CGA and EGA use 9-pin connectors. The VGA and SVGA use 15-pin connectors. All video ports use female connectors, while all video cables coming from the monitor use male connectors.

We will discuss video standards in more detail in the lesson on monitors.
